About us - (under construction)
About us - (under construction)
In Recykel we will revive the bike with a good steel frame. Only then can we create a bike that combines: Driving pleasure, aesthetics and durability.
Philosophy
The standard bicycle you'll find here will typically be single-speed. Experience has shown us that this provides the best riding properties and durability which we appreciate. We offer to change the gearing on your bike until you find the gearing that suits you.
A pleasant ride
The frame stiffness means that less energy is lost at the power transfer to the pedals, than an equivalent aluminum-made bike. This makes the steel frame more dynamic. Since we do not compromise on any of the mounted components, a pleasant ride is assured for your recykel.
Aesthetics
We have a critical requirement for our bikes. They should be aesthetic in their appearance. We believe that we can only achieve this with traditional steel frames, where pipes are thin.
Durability
Today, most new bikes made of aluminum. You will hear manufacturers say they do it to make the bike lighter, but a good steel frame can be just as light. The truth is that the aluminum tubes are thicker and therefore easier for a computer-controlled robot to weld, and therefore cheaper to mass produce. Unfortunately, aluminum frames have limited lifetime due to metal fatigue. They will therefore usually come with a guarantee of maximum five years. A steel frame can last a lifetime if you pay attention to corrosion.
Technology
FEA is a computer simulation technique used in engineering analysis.
In the figures an FEA comparison of a lugged and welded down tube to head tube joint. The load is a torsion applied to the down tube with the ends of the head tube fixed. The arbitrary torsion load is the same in each case.
The maximum stress in the welded joint is about double that of the lugged joint. The edge of the lug is shaped and tapered to avoid a concentrated joint edge where stress would concentrate.
These local stresses are important in the frames strength and durability.
Obviously it is possible to build welded frames that are strong enough. However, the lugged frame may be able to use thinner wall tubing.
Minimalism
The steel frame is fundamental to the ride of a Recykel and hereby is steel quality, frame geometry and the frame assembly three crucial things.
Recykel's steel frame is made of a Crom-Molybdenum alloy which means that a heat treatment can increase the strength of the steel. Combined with the fact that Recykel's steel frame is lugged, even with very thin tubes, a high stiffness and strength is achived.
The steel frames are mounted only with carefully selected components to maintain a very high standard. The result is a lightweight, dynamic and easy-diven bike that is simple in its expression.
